BONGANI Mokone (37) never lost hope even after losing his job during the pandemic.
Bongani and his wife Thulisile Mbanzhe (33) from Thulamahashe near Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga, have four children to feed and he needed to make money to care for them. Today his business, Kwa-Mkhonzeni Chicken Dust, is booming at the busy Thulamahashe Plaza near the taxi rank.
Bongani started the small business in February by selling roasted chicken feet, gizzards, wings, Russians and hot dogs at low prices.

“When customers complained that our space was too small, we moved into the yard of the plaza,” he said.
“The business is growing fast. We get huge support from customers who come back for more.”
He said some customers love the chicken dust dressed with chakalaka and coleslaw while others prefer it cooked and with pap.
“Quarter is R40, half R80 and full R120. Cooked pork head is R60 and so is skopo and amanqina,” he said.
Bongani has two happy workers, Africa Shilubane (25) and Tsakani Mabasa (37).
