Blood flows at ANC meeting

accreditation

POLICE in Mpumalanga are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder after two people were shot during an ANC branch general meeting at ward 21 in KaNyamazane on Sunday, 23 October.

One succumbed to his injuries after being shot, while the other was taken to hospital for further treatment.

According to police spokesman Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, the meeting was allegedly joined by some community members of Pienaar to support a ward councillor. He said while waiting for the meeting to start, a conflict broke out among the people who were attending the meeting. Mohlala said this led to the cancellation of the meeting.

“We have registered a case of murder and attempted murder. We request anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect to report to the nearest police station. We call upon our communities to be tolerant of each other whenever they are having meetings. If there are some disagreements, they must resolve them amicably rather than use arms or other weapons,” he said

Meanwhile ANC Mpumalanga secretary Muzi Chirwa condemned the act of people coming from other places to invade other wards.

“We request that people of a particular ward or branch must be given a chance to do their organisational and political work without the interference of people from other wards and other places. At the same time we request law enforcement agencies to investigate this matter and bring the perpetrators to book,” he said.
