MUKONDI'S dreams of higher education are on hold.
Despite getting a bachelor's pass at Alfred Ngwedzeni Secondary School in 2022, Mukondi Khumela's (20) dreams of further studies are blocked.
This is due Home Affairs' delay in issuing his birth certificate so that he can apply to get an ID.
Mukondi from Tshikonelo in Malamulele, Limpopo was raised by his mother, Dorris Milazi, who is originally from Zimbabwe and his biological father, Tshililo Khumela. But his parents separated when he was only a year old.
During this period, his mother tried unsuccessfully to obtain a birth certificate, now important for unlocking the doors to his future.

Speaking to Daily Sun, Mukondi complained that his once-bright future is now on hold, awaiting the attention of Home Affairs.
“Despite numerous visits to the Home Affairs office, I was not helped, and this predicament leaves me unable to apply for further studies at a university or college.
Mukondi's father, Tshililo, said he was hopeful that Home Affairs would soon resolve his son's matter.
"It’s difficult to see him idle not being able to pursue his studies like other children. I’m always praying that Home Affairs will help him because I want him to have a bright future," he said.
Daily Sun sent a detailed media inquiry to Home Affairs spokesman Siya Qoza on 12 December 2023.
The paper subsequently followed up in January, February and recently but without luck. This ongoing silence adds another layer of frustration to Mukondi's persistent struggle for a brighter educational future.
