MUNICIPAL workers dug trenches in front of houses in Bekkersdal.
And they left them like that for weeks.
Residents are now furious and want the municipality to close the open trenches.
They claim the trenches not only swallow up their chickens and dogs but also prevent physically challenged people and cars from getting through.
One resident, Norman Busang, said: "Cars can't drive into the yard. These trenches are dangerous, especially at night."
Residents said the never-ending sewerage project has brought them nothing but agony.
This has prompted residents in another section to stop the project before it even started.

"Why are they digging these trenches near our houses and leaving them open for weeks. How are we supposed to get on with our lives? Yes, we want development, but it doesn't have to encroach on our rights."
On Tuesday, a meeting was held between community leaders and the municipality.
Project manager, Hetisane Shondlane, assured residents that the trenches will be closed soon, and admitted that there were still challenges to overcome.
"The municipality has no plan. That's a fact and that worries us," said resident, Veli Mkholo.
Another resident said can't drive into his yard. He said he tried to get help from the municipality but had been sent from pillar to post.
West Rand Municipality spokesman, Phillip Montshiwa said the Human Settlements Department is currently engaged in upgrading the sewerage system in Bekkersdal.
"It's worth noting that the department took immediate action to prevent potential hazards by sealing all open trenches after the pipes were laid and ensuring that there are no unattended openings. We're in regular contact with the department to ensure the effectiveness of their actions and can confirm that they are listening to any concerns that arise in this regard."
