XILUVA party leader Bongani Baloyi and party members, accompanied by the Lotus Gardens Atteridgeville and Civic Association (Lasca) members, handed over alleged incriminating evidence to the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) exposing City of Tshwane officials.

The allegations involve irregular tender practices for chemical toilets in the informal settlements.

Baloyi urged the SIU to thoroughly investigate the allegations.

The evidence was handed over on Thursday, 25 January.

According to Baloyi, their expectations include several things, such as arrests, which will lead to people being fired.

"It gives an institution a refresh, a time to improve systems, processes, and management systems to ensure that you prevent things that may mitigate in future. Hopefully, it will ultimately lead to the institution being insulated from corruption," said Baloyi.

He said they handed over some important documentation that pertained to the ongoing investigations, which was enabled by the proclamation signed by President Cyril Ramaphosa speaking about Rooiwaal.

"The consequence of Rooiwaal has been a fruit of the corrupt tree. We believe the information we gathered speaks to the depth of corruption happening in Tshwane in the provision of water. And the appointment of service providers and water tankers to provide water in the city of Tshwane," he said.

Baloyi said they have information about the appointment process and the irregularities.

"These are signatories of appointment processes. When you are an official or city manager, when it comes to issues you have signed, you assure yourself that the process has been above board and all the legal regulations and laws have been made," he said.

Baloyi said some officials didn't listen to advice and recommendations from the boards that advised not to continue with such appointments. He said the existing appointments were finalised in November 2024.

Lasca leader Tshepo Mahlangu said: "The corruption is affecting us. Instead of fixing the problem, their interest is to steal money. Rooiwaal's issue has dire consequences for human life. People have died in Hammanskraal."

He said they are supporting Xiluva in this matter 120%.

SIU spokesman Kaizer Kganyago said: "We received information from them and will look into it."
