A WOMAN (32) is grateful to be alive.
She said she thanks God and her ancestors after she survived the wrath of the axeman.
She said the man attacked her with an axe on Monday, evening 31 October.
She said the axeman is her neighbour and when he hit her with the axe, she collapsed.
The woman from Mountain View Zone 2 near KwaMhlanga is one of the victims attacked by the axeman, who has since brought fear to the community.
She said her six-month-old baby was not spared by the axe-wielding man.
“My neighbour asked for a matches and when I went to give it to her, I found the axeman hitting her with the axe. When I shouted asking him what he was doing, he attacked me too. He hit me on the head and I fell down. I stared death on the face. He continued hitting me on the body. I also have scars on my buttocks and I can’t sit properly. I was carrying my six-month-old baby at the back and was also injured on the leg,” she said.
“I was saved by a man who was coming towards us and the axeman stopped and ran away. I thank God and my ancestors for saving me. I thought I was dying. I felt dizzy and blood was just gushing down my face. The man who saved me called the residents and they took me to hospital. I was treated and then discharged,” she said.
She said she saw her neighbour in a stretcher in the same ward and remembered that she was also attacked.
The axeman attacked another woman in the area.
According to the woman’s husband (38), he’s also holding his breath that his wife survives.
His wife (33) was badly injured after she was also attacked by the axeman.

“Things are not looking good according to the doctors. They told me that my wife was badly injured on the head. She also has injuries on the body. Doctors said her skull cracked. She is unable to talk and I was told to expect anything. I am praying that she makes it because I can’t imagine life without her. When the attack happened I was not at home,” he said.
The axeman attacked his uncle and chopped him to death on Monday, 31 October. These attacks have since left the community in fear. The axeman is still at large.
Police spokesman Colonel Donald Mdluli said three cases of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm have been opened. He said no arrest has been made yet and police are investigating.
