A QUICK police response led to the arrest of five suspects.
According to police spokeswoman Captain Neldah Sekgobela said on Wednesday, 31 August, the man who was driving a bakkie was allegedly cornered by armed men.
She said a man and his team drove to a house on Umkhomazi Street, Klipfontein View in Ekurhuleni to deliver decoders.
She said the driver’s colleague went into the house to deliver the decoder. When he returned, he was met by a group of armed men who pointed guns at him.
"The suspects came in three cars. They blocked their vehicle in front of the door. All the suspects got out of their vehicle, pointed firearms at them and one took the keys out of the ignition and ordered the driver to get out of the vehicle. They escorted him to the back of their bakkie, opened it and took all the items inside the bakkie and then loaded them into one of their vehicles.

"The crew was told to stay in the car, then other suspects went to their escort vehicle and robbed the driver of his firearm and his cellphone. The suspects took the complainant's keys and the keys of the escorted vehicle, threw them on the ground and drove away without shooting the victim," Sekgobela said.
She said members of the multi-dimensional organised crime intelligence service received information about the robbery and activated their tracing team.
Together with the Tactical Response Team in Ekurhuleni North, the Gauteng Highway Patrol and Joburg K9, they conducted a special tactical operation that led to the arrest of seven suspects aged between 29 and 48.
Sekgobela said the suspects were charged with possession of five unlicensed firearms and ammunition, seven DStv Explora Ultra decoders and seven cellphones.
Ekurhuleni deputy district commissioner, Brigadier Lebohang Machakela, commended the members for their quick response.
