A SWIFT response by cops led to the arrest of eight suspects and the recovery of five firearms and explosives in Gauteng on Wednesday, 30 August.
Gauteng police spokeswoman Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said a team consisting of members from the tactical response team, highway patrol and Joburg K9 received information about a group of suspects at Phomolong section in Tembisa, who reportedly robbed a courier vehicle in Klipfontein.
"The operational team strategically approached the identified address, and seven suspects were arrested," Nevhuhulwi said.
She said three vehicles used in the commission of the crime were also recovered, including the firearms and the goods suspected to be robbed from the courier vehicle.
In another separate incident, the members of the highway patrol recovered explosives and arrested one suspect in Diepkloof, Soweto.

Nevhuhulwi told Daily Sun that police followed up on information that led them to a house in Diepkloof where explosives and ammunition were recovered.
"All suspects will appear in court soon on charges of possession of explosives and ammunition. The police investigation continues," Nevhuhulwi said.
Meanwhile, Gauteng police commissioner Lieutenant-General Elias Mawela applauded the cops for the arrests and recovery of firearms and explosives.
Mawela further assured the residents of Gauteng that the police will continue working tirelessly to ensure that those who break the law are arrested and face the full might of the law.
