RDP beneficiaries receive title deeds after five years.

"The claim that we are campaigning is false and untrue. The current government has distributed more than a thousand title deeds to date.

This was said by City of Joburg Human Settlements spokesman Neo Goba when asked by Daily Sun if distributing title deeds was some form of campaigning.

This came after Anthea Leitch, MMC for Human Settlements, and Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements Lebogang Maile visited Fleurhof in Joburg on Thursday, 4 April to hand over title deeds to 632 beneficiaries who had received houses in Fleurhof extension 29.

The handing over of the title deeds brought a smile to the faces of the residents who have been waiting for years to own their own home.

Gogo Elizabeth Gxekwa said she was glad that he had finally received his title deed.

Gogo Elizabeth Gxekwa (89) told Daily Sun that she applied for a house in 1997 and was allocated a flat in 2021.

"I'm excited that I finally have the papers for my house. I lived with my cousin in Dube, Soweto for years. Only now, in my old age, I have been allocated a home," Elizabeth said.

She said that before she was allocated the house, she had lost all hope and never believed that she'd one day own a property.

Military veteran Serame Motloung said he was glad that he had finally received his title deed.

Serame Motloung (52) said he was happy to have finally received his title deed proving that he is the owner of the house.

He said that before the house, he lived in his parents’ home in Meadowlands, and it was occupied by more than 12 people and there no privacy.

"There was no privacy. I have kids, and my siblings have children too. There were too many of us in one yard. Now we are empowered, and I have my own property. Even if I die tomorrow, I'll die in peace because I know my children have a home and no one will evict because they'll be having the right papers," Serame said.

MEC Maile has urged the elderly to keep the documents safe and not hand them over to abomashonisa.
