A FAMILY wants justice after Desiree Ngobeni (33) was allegedly shot dead by her boyfriend.

The shocking incident happened at her parents' home at B2 in Mamelodi West, Tshwane on Monday morning, 1 April.

It's alleged that Desiree was shot in her sleep with almost five bullets. Her aunt, Windy Manganye (56), claimed that Desiree was killed in her sleep.

"This is painful, and we are heartbroken. This man killed our daughter. He's evil," she said.

She said the man even paid lobola.

"We didn't expect that from him. There was a misunderstanding and Desiree moved out of the house," she said.

Windy claimed that neighbours heard her screaming, "Please, don't kill me".

She claimed that the suspect jumped over the wall, broke down the door and entered the house.

Desiree’s cousin, Sibongile Ngobeni (26), said it was shocking to hear that Desiree was allegedly killed by her husband.

Aunt Johanna Ngobeni (61) said they want justice for Desiree and for the boyfriend to rot in prison.

"We don't want to see him again. We want him to rot in prison. We want justice because this man is evil. Why did he kill Desiree like this?" she said.

Desiree's father, Philip Sibiya (58), said: "I am very hurt. My daughter didn't deserve to be killed in this way. In fact, I didn't like her marriage because this man was full of gimmicks and not honest."

Terry Maboa, EFF ward 17 convener, said: "This is sad, and the man killed his girlfriend with a service pistol. We don't allow such incidents where officers kill our kids. We, the government, must not allow police officers to take firearms into their homes."

ANC Youth League secretary in ward 38, Roody Zitha (34), said:  "We are heartbroken. This man killed our good sister. We want justice for Desiree. No bail for him."

Tshwane police spokesman Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said: "A 53-year-old man was arrested for murder in Mamelodi on Monday, 1 April 2024. It's alleged that he shot his girlfriend. The suspect turned himself in to police the same day and was arrested."

Mamelodi Magistrate Court senior public prosecutor, Advocate Anne-Marie Bendeman, said the accused faces charges of premeditated murder and trespassing.

Bendeman said the accused appeared in the Mamelodi Magistrate Court on Wednesday, 3 April and abandoned bail and will remain in custody.

"The accused requested to be represented by a legal aid lawyer," she said.

Magistrates Shana Hitchcock postponed the case to Wednesday, 5 June 2024 for further investigation.
