A 37-year-old woman from Seshego, Limpopo, is in hiding after her ex-boyfriend allegedly set their home on fire with a petrol bomb.

The incident occurred in the morning on Sunday, 9 July, while they were still asleep.

Pheladi Mathivha claims that her boyfriend broke a window and threw a petrol bomb into the house, setting it on fire.

In an interview with Daily Sun, Mathivha said the flames awakened her and her female friend.

"We ran out through another door, but he was waiting, and I grabbed his hands to prevent him from harming me further as he stepped back. He poured petrol on me, but I managed to escape," she said.

She said they then called for help from our community, but unfortunately, her house was already engulfed in flames.

Mathivha expressed shock that her boyfriend would commit such an act, as they had not been involved in any fights.

"He did this while carrying a bottle of dry gin, and now I am forced to reside with my friend. We are living in fear and hoping the police can apprehend him," she said.

Limpopo police spokesman Colonel Malesela Ledwaba confirmed the incident, stating, "We can confirm an arson case, and we know the suspect's place of residence. Detectives are pursuing him, and police investigations are ongoing," said Ledwaba.
