THE ANC Women's League (ANCWL) has slammed ANC KZN provincial chairman Siboniso Duma for allegedly bullying KZN Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube.

This was after Duma, who's also the MEC for Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, was seen allegedly hijacking the moment for Dube-Ncube to lift Amabokoboko's Webb Ellis trophy as the provincial government leader.

Duma lifted the trophy with Springbok player Eben Etzebeth while Dube-Ncube was left clapping hands.

ANCYL deputy secretary General Dina Pule said they were deeply concerned by the ongoing and regrettable actions of Duma, which repeatedly undermined the authority and leadership of Dube-Ncube.

“These regrettable actions not only continue to undermine the authority of the premier of the province but also betray the principles of non-sexism and gender equality that are fundamental to the ANC’s ideology," she said.

“Gender equality is not just an ideal, but a fundamental principle that the ANC identifies with. The actions of comrade Siboniso Duma demonstrate a regrettable departure from this essential value, perpetuating harmful gender stereotypes which have no place within the ANC or broader political discourse."

She said this persistent behaviour disrupts the harmonious functioning of the provincial government, impeding the progress and development that the people of KZN rightfully deserve.

She said looking back at historical instances within their organisation in KZN and various other provinces, it was evident that there had been cases where the provincial chair of the ANC was not appointed premier.

“In these instances, there is no precedent of undermining and disrespecting the premier based on their not being the provincial chair of the ANC, nor on the basis of their gender,” she said.

Siboniso Duma’s spokesman, Ndabe Sibiya, told Daily Sun they have no comment except that MEC Duma works very well with the premier.
