SENIOR ANC NEC member Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma has turned down an opportunity to return to parliament after the elections.
She announced that she has decided to retire from Parliament.
Dlamini-Zuma announced her retirement in a letter to the head of the ANC electoral committee, Kgalema Mothlante, after she was invited to the interview for the 2024 national list.
She had been a member of Parliament since 1994.
In the letter she said: "I appreciate the vote of confidence of the branches who have once again nominated me for the ANC's 2024 National List.
"My sincere gratitude to the entire leadership of the African National Congress at national, provincial, regional and branch levels for affording me the opportunity and support to serve the country and the people of South Africa as a public representative and as a member of Cabinet since 1994."

Dlamini-Zuma thanked all the ANC presidents under whose leadership and guidance she served as a member of the executive.
She said she was very grateful to them all for allowing her to serve the continent as the first woman to head the African Union Commission and as the first chairperson of the Southern African Development Community.
"There will be no need to schedule the interview for the 2024 national list as I have taken the decision to retire from membership of the South African Parliament," she said.
