accreditation

A 40-YEAR-OLD plant operator employed by Eskom in Atlantis appeared at the Atlantis Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 28 December, for allegedly stealing diesel worth R500 000.

Hawks spokeswoman Zinzi Hani said the suspect was arrested on 23 December while at home during his suspension.

“Through internal investigations, it was established that the plant operator permitted a vehicle to collect the stolen diesel from the site.

“He declared the diesel tanker empty and that all diesel had been offloaded, whereas it was not,” Hani said.

She said an internal investigation was conducted by Eskom and the Hawks based in Bellville arrested the suspect a month after a complaint of the theft of diesel was laid.

“The matter has been postponed to 24 February 2023 for further investigation and he was released on R50 000 bail,” Hani said.
