ACTION SA leader Herman Mashaba will lead a picket outside the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe’s Head Quarters in Sunnyside, Tshwane on Tuesday.

On 19 May 2022, the Lily Mine Families as well as former miners and workers marched to the offices of the Premier of Mpumalanga, Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane and delivered a memorandum requesting her Office’s intervention to have a meeting with the Mine’s Business Rescue Practitioners who have to date not delivered on their mandate as ordered by the Mbombela High Court.

It was requested that the Premier’s Office respond within 10 days of receipt of the memorandum which it failed to do.

Lerato Ngobeni said in a statement, “ActionSA, as supporters of the Lily Mine Families since Mashaba was approached during the People’s Dialogue, soon after his resignation as the Mayor of Joburg December 2019, will, together with a 100 member-strong team accompany the families to Minister Mantashe’s Offices to escalate and lay their issues at his doorstep as the chief accounting officer of the State in this regard.”

Mashaba will accompanied by John Moodey, ActionSA National Director of Operations; Bongani Baloyi, ActionSA Gauteng Provincial Chairperson; Lerato Ngobeni, ActionSA National Spokesperson as well as ActionSA Caucus Leaders in Gauteng Metros: Funzi Ngobeni; Derrick Kissonduth; and Tlhogi Moseki. Most importantly, families and representatives of the Lily Mine Families led by Official Family Spokesperson, Harry Mazibuko.
