A HORRIFIC accident has claimed the lives of seven people just a day after Limpopo Transport and Community Safety MEC Florence Radzilani warned residents about reckless driving.

The incident happened after a Mazda 3 allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and went under the trailer of a Hino truck on the intersection of the N11 and D2534 roads at Slagboom outside Burgersfort, Limpopo on Friday, 1 December.

This after MEC Radzilani warned motorists to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy during her department's launch of the festive season road safety campaign on Thursday, 30 November.

Radzilani also raised serious concerns that horrific accidents could happen during her launch.

The driver of the Mazda, and six other passengers unfortunately perished on the scene.

Radzilani said she was disturbed by the news of the accident that claimed seven lives on the scene.

"I appeal to all road users to drive cautiously during this festive season, and arrive alive at their respective destinations," said the MEC.

She has sent messages of condolences to the bereaved families.

"The responsibility of saving lives doesn’t only lie with traffic officials on the roads, but drivers must also take responsibility to ensure that they remain safe on the roads," added Radzilani.
