A VIDEO of an allegedly drunk ANC councillor has gone viral on social media.

The video shows the councillor being chased away by the angry community of Boipatong in the Vaal.

This after the Ward 3 councillor tried to address a community meeting on Sunday, 20 August, and the community became angry as he wanted to speak to the people while drunk.

Resident Tsietsi Mokoena told Daily Sun that the councillor is allegedly always drunk and he came to the public meeting drunk on Sunday and the people were angry with him.

“We have serious sewage problems that run next to schools, and many streets are not usable, and when we want to raise these issues with the ward councillor, he is always drunk.”

DA caucus leader Teboho Tlokwe said he is shocked after seeing a video that is circulating of an alleged drunk ANC councillor trying to hold a public meeting.

“This goes against the code of conduct and ethics of all public representatives regarding how they should behave in the public domain, especially while conducting official duties of work,” said Tlokwe.

“The councillor disrespected the community when he was seen drunk, attempting but with great failure, to stand up on his two feet to address the community on service delivery issues,” he said.

“This is unacceptable and uncalled for, and the DA will ensure that it raises this matter with the Speaker and Chief Whip of the council so that necessary consequences are applied.”

Emfuleni Local Municipality assistant manager in the speaker’s office, Mega Tebakang, said the speaker is aware of the trending video of the ward councillor.

Tebakang said the office will look into their existing policies for guidance on how to handle the matter, and they are going to meet with the concerned councillor.
