A MAN (52) has done the unthinkable.

This after he allegedly staged his own kidnapping.

According to Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, the suspect was charged with obstruction of justice and extortion.

"On 16 April, the accused allegedly called his wife and told her that he was not coming home and that she should not involve the police as she was awaiting further instructions. It's further alleged that the woman acted contrary to instructions and informed the police. She reportedly told the cops that he had made a ransom demand of R60 000," said Mgolodela.

Mgolodela said a joint team continued investigations for five days until they made a breakthrough on Saturday, 20 April. The suspect was found by the Hawks hiding at his cousin's house in Kariega.

"Investigations led police to the accused cousin’s house where he was found hiding under wooden pallets. The suspect was arrested on the spot," Mgolodela said.

He is expected to appear in the Kariega Magistrates Court in the Nelson Mandela Bay on Tuesday, 23 April 2024.
