An unidentified body of a woman has been recovered.

THE search and rescue team has recovered a body of an unidentified female on the N1 North bridge in Klip River, Olifantsvlei, south of Joburg.

The body was recovered just before noon on Wednesday, 22 November.

EMS spokeswoman Xolile Khumalo said that both EMS and SAPS water wing were on the scene.

She said that the body has not yet been identified.

“We are not certain whether it's one of the two young people who allegedly drowned in Klip River," she said.

The City of Joburg Emergency Management Services Aquatic Rescue Unit, together with SAPS water wing, recovered the body during the search of the two young people who allegedly drowned in Klip River on Saturday night, 18 November.

The two youngsters, an 18-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man, were washed away during a cleansing ritual along the Klip River stream in Olifantsvlei.

It's now day four since the rescue team and the police have been searching for the two young people.

Khumalo said that the water level at the river appears to be higher than it was on Tuesday, posing challenges for the teams.

She has since urged the community of Joburg, especially the traditional healers, prophets, and izangoma, to ensure that their congregants or clients are their priority when conducting these rituals and ceremonies.
