Zoe Modiga’s song Abantu has been featured on the Netflix series Savage Beauty.
Savage Beauty stars Rosemary Zimu, Dumisani Mbebe, Nthati Moshesh, Nambitha Ben-Mazwi and Slindile Nodangala to name a few.
Explaining how the playlisting of her song came about, the 29-year-old singer told SunBuzz: “They contacted us as they were interested in using one of my songs. Then the idea came of me performing the song on the show.”
The song, Abantu, is a call for effective social change.
Zoe, whose real name is Palesa Nomthandazo Phumelele Modiga, said it is taken from her second project Inganekwane.
The album was number one on the Apple Music South Africa World Charts within a few weeks of its release.

On what inspired the album, Zoe said she wanted to celebrate the black experience and people of colour, using her mother tongue.
The award-winning singer, songwriter, instrumentalist and Pan African activist said she would love to see African music being appreciated and seen by global citizens.
“We get to educate the global market about our diversity as we have different kinds of music.”
Zoe, who was born and raised in Pietermaritzburg in KZN, said: “My love of music came from observing the community of people in Pietermaritzburg and listening to neighbours playing their music.”
She said she’s always working on new music but took her time to release anything.
“I take time to get a new sound and a new way to tell our story. I consider myself an album artist. My fans know I take a couple of years in between my albums,” she said.
