AFTER disappearing for five years, musician Yamikani "Lady Zamar" Banda returns to the music industry with bold statements.

Lady Zamar said she doesn’t fear anyone, as she has returned with a new album called Rainbow.

She launched the album at Cofi Midrand, Gauteng on Friday, 19 April.

Talking to the media, the Collide hitmaker said she has been recovering.

“I spent a lot of 2020 in hospital and in 2021, I spent it trying to regain my singing voice because it’s scary when you're going into an operation, and you can’t sing anything or make a sound,” she said.

She said taking a break is important for artists at times.

“Being an artist, you're praised a lot, you’re constantly put on this pedestal, and it can get into your head. You need to unplug and remember who you are, where you are from and who is important to you,” she said.

She said her album is meant to motivate people.

“Ownership is the biggest thing I want people to take away. Own your own life. On a song like Enough, I'm speaking from an inner voice. I don’t want people to overlook their own emotions because this world is messed up,” she said.

Lady Zamar said she wants people to be aware of themselves, adding that she has a documentary coming out that will allow people to get to know her better.

“You guys get to know me. People don’t really know me. I'm a very private person and I never speak on my personal life. This documentary gives people an overview on how it has been for me for the past couple of years,” she said.

She said that people will get to know about her private life.

Lady Zamar said that she's on a self-awareness journey.

“I'm not afraid anymore, and there’s no one who scares me. All the possible scenarios that I was afraid of as an artist have played out in the five years. At this point, I don’t know what you have unless you throw a bomb at my house. A kena taba (I don’t care)” she said.
