Vuyelwa Honoured With Living Legend 2022

POPULAR disco singer Vuyelwa has been honoured with a Living Legend Award 2022 by Polokwane based Munghana Lonene FM XMA 17 Awards held in Nkowankowa in Tzaneen, Limpopo on Saturday, 05 November.

I Don’t Need Your Billionare hitmaker, whose real name is Gladys Mapitlula from small Ga- Mapitlula Village outside Tzaneen, told SunBuzz that this award is a great achievement in her 33 years being in the music industry.

“This award is great achievement to me, my family and my beautiful fans. Thanks to Munghana Lonene FM for recognizing my singing talent. I am so excited and proud of this prestigious award and, I am going to preserve it. But I’m not yet thinking of retiring. I’m still pushing hard writing songs and producing even local and up and coming artists,” she said.

She said her next hot album will come out end of February, and her single Vanavela featuring disco guru Dr General Muzka will be released in a few weeks time.

In 2019 her album Mahluva sold like hot cakes in the market some of her the songs she worked her dynamic producers Junior Mukhari and Stanley Chiloane. And she’s been backing vocalist for Xitsonga disco artist President Benny Mayengani.

The diva said her doors to music industry started back then in 1987 as backing vocalist for the late Xitsonga disco king legendary the great Peta Tenant.

Before she went solo and released her debut album I Don’t Need Your Billionare hit Mzansi market shelves in 1989.

In 2006 she was nominated for the best MLFM Xitsonga female artist and best Xitsonga disco artist at Xitsonga music awards. She won 2007 and 2008 best female artist and 2008 MLFM artist of the year award as well as best artist award from Sekgosese FM of 2017.

She has been to Botswana, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Namibia sharing stage with the likes of Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Girly Mafura, General Muzka, Patricia Majalisa, the late Zaide Chongo and Ntombi Marhumbini – Mokoena just a list to mention.
