PAPA Penny has hit back at Munghana Lonene FM.
This comes after he told Daily Sun on Tuesday, 3 May that the station refused to play his song Madam Speaker.
He said when he submitted the song, it had already gone viral on social media but he later received a letter, saying his singing was out of tune and the production was not up to standard.
He demanded an apology in writing but the station refused, accusing him of making unreasonable demands.
In a statement, SABC spokeswoman Gugu Ntuli insisted the song did not meet the station’s production standard for broadcast. She also claimed he had demanded a two-hour interview.
This angered Papa Penny even more and he recorded a video hitting back.
“They’re lying. I don’t own the radio station so I can’t demand a two-hour interview. But I demand a letter of apology. I’m not begging them to play my album. The song they mentioned was submitted in 2020 and they never played it. They are against my songs. In the meeting, we never discussed the issue of hours but a written apology. My final word to Munghana Lonene FM is give me all my albums since 1994.”
But Ntuli said she stood by her response. “However, as the organisation respects Penny Penny, it would not want to further engage in a public spat with a music legend who has received support from the SABC for his music,” she said.
“In addition, the SABC does not take instructions through the media and Penny Penny is encouraged to approach the SABC formally should he wish to have his music removed from its system.”
