COMMERCIAL radio station Vuma FM will commemorate Youth Day in style by giving the youth a taste of what it feels to be behind the mic.
The Durban-based radio station has invited four young people, who have a passion for radio broadcasting, to join them in studio on Friday, June 16.
They will be co-hosting the 6-9am breakfast show hosted by Mzokoloko Gumede, Nombuso Mkhwanazi and Gabriel Sithole on a special segment called Youth Takeover.
Vuma FM marketing manager Lydia Mtshali told Daily Sun they were excited to celebrate Youth Month by offering a unique opportunity to young people.
“We are giving four talented young individuals, aged between 15 and 24, the chance to present the Vuma FM Breakfast Show for a day on 16 June.

“This initiative aims to empower and showcase the voices of the youth in our community and give them a taste of what it’s like to host a breakfast show,” she said.
Mtshali said those who want to be a part of the Youth Takeover special broadcast during Youth Day must download or visit the Vuma FM app called My Vuma FM app on their smartphones.
“Entry submission deadline was on Tuesday, 13 June and the best four will be on air on Friday,” she said.
She said they will keep demos of the four who will be selected at hand should future opportunities arise at the station.
Vuma FM was launched in 2012 as a commercial radio station. Its content is 90% Zulu and 10% English.
