LEGENDARY actress Connie Chiume, who was recently honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the South African Film and Television Awards, is celebrating 44 years in the entertainment industry.

The Gomora actress, who has vast experience in the film and television industry, urges aspiring artists to never give up on their dreams.

Connie told Daily Sun her journey in the industry over the past years was not smooth, but she kept going.

“For me, it was a journey with different paths. There were times of sadness, excitement, rejections and acceptance,” she said.

The 70-year-old actress said the challenges she came across made her who she is today.

Connie from Welkom in the Free State said working on different projects and productions made her more wiser and stronger.

She said she never felt like giving up as this was her calling and a blessing from God.

Connie said working in this tough industry taught her to be humble and to always give the best in everything she does.

The actress, who plays Mam’ Sonto on Mzansi Magic’s Gomora and is well-known for her role in international film Black Panther, said when she came across challenges, she always remembered why she started her career.

She said she believed that the challenges were meant to strengthen her.

“Remember, we are freelancers. Sometimes it’s going well for you and the other days it’s dark,” she said.

Connie advised young people not to get into the industry for fame.

“Young people should go to school and never stop learning.

“They should respect the production team on set and their colleagues as we are supposed to be a team,” she said.

The actress, who was recently honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award, said this was the best thing to ever happen to her.

She said this award has made her dream even bigger.

She said she is who she is because of the support she has been getting from her fans.

“I am grateful for your love and I love you all,” Connie said.
