UZALO actor Thabo Mnguni has become closer to God and learnt more about religion, and it's all thanks to the pastor role he plays on the show.

The 57-year-old actor from Lamontville, south of Durban, plays the controversial Pastor Khekhukuthula Mbatha on Uzalo, who always leaves viewers in stitches by constantly changing his titles from archbishop to pope, shaman and many more.

Thabo, who joined Uzalo for its second season in 2016, said the character challenged him and forced him to read and understand the Bible so that it can be easy to quote verses.
