UKHOZI FM traffic reporter Ayanda Msweli became a hero when he handed over a new house to a gogo living with a disability.
The gogo was attacked and raped a few months ago.
Ayanda, also known as Ingwenya, handed over the house in Bhanganomo Village in Nongoma, KZN on Mandela Day, 18 July.
The 68-year-old wheelchair bound gogo from Nongoma lived in a dilapidated house when she was attacked.
After the incident, Ayanda started to raise funds through the Ayanda Msweli Foundation, where he went up and down with a white bucket to collect R10 donations.
Although the perpetrator was arrested, Ayanda felt that the gogo should get a decent house and he built it with the help of residents' donations and the Department of Correctional Services, which brought in inmates to help build it.
Ayanda told Daily Sun that the time to only comfort victims when they have a problem and not fix it is over.
“Former president Nelson Mandela taught us to help each other and it's time for us to do so and help those who are in need. We have to come up with solutions to problems.
“Building a decent house will help the granny feel safe in her room without anyone forcing entry like they allegedly did during her rape ordeal,” he said.

Ayanda said that the fundraising programme, Neconsi Liyaligcwalisa iBhakede, won't stop helping people.
“We will continue to help other needy people because I realised that Mzansi people, especially at taxi ranks, like to help needy. We need to learn to help each other and prevent situations like what happened to the granny,” he told Daily Sun.
