SABC2 has been cancelling their longest-running shows in the past two years, from Pasella, Motswako and most recently, 7de Laan.
All the shows had been on the channel for more than 20 years.
SABC2 marketing manager for video entertainment, Dichaba Phalatse, revealed why shows are being canned.
He said that the channel had been known for mostly being a Venda, Sepedi, Tsonga and Afrikaans channel, and they want to change that.
They want to make it a "mass channel".
“Some of you might have seen that there are major changes happening in the channel. Some shows have been dropped.
“One of the things we’re doing as a channel is, we are changing it from being a channel that focuses on language, but a channel that focuses on all South Africans,” he said.

Phalatse also said that more changes are coming.
“There are still going to be changes around the channel, and we are excited because we are moving towards being a mass channel that caters for all South African fans,” he said.
Phalatse said that they will replace shows that are ending with new ones.
“After 23 years on air, SABC2 and Danie Odendaal Productions announce that the long-running popular soapie 7de Laan will not be recommissioned for another season when season 24 comes to an end in December 2023," the channel said in a statement.
