PAPI Khomane maybe gone but the mark he left on the soccer world will not fade any time soon, and his fans are determined to keep his memory alive.

Fan Phillip Jwara said he was sad to hear about Khomane's death.

"Death has robbed us of a great man on and off the pitch. We still wished for many things from him," Philip said.

Philip wore his Orlando Pirates fan gear to pay his last respects to the former Bucs captain.

Another fan, Kenneth "Gunman" Mgiba, said he had known Khomane since he was a little boy.

"He used to come to the pitch with his father Yster Khomane. His father was playing for Orlando Pirates at the time. He will forever be in our hearts," he said.

Khomane died last Saturday, 25 November in car accident. He died together with his mother Nomasonto Khomane and his uncle, Moffat Norman Nkosi.

Khomane began his professional career at Jomo Cosmos in 1994 before moving to Pirates in 1998.

He made more than 150 appearances and epitomised what it meant to be a Buccaneer all the time.

Khomane also played nine international matches for Bafana Bafana between 1998 and 2000.

After retiring from football, Khomane is said to have gone into farming in Heilbron, Free State.
