GOSPEL singer Hlengiwe “Hle” Ntombela’s new clothing store aims to promote the word of God.

She opened her first clothing store called YKOE, which stands for Your Kingdom on Earth, in Melville, Joburg, recently. It’s named after her 2020 debut album.

Hle is riding high as she is also in the running for the Favourite Music Artist/Group Award at the DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards at Times Square Casino, Tshwane, on Saturday, 25 June.

She told Daily Sun she never thought she would own a clothing store.

“When I got the vision for my album, I realised it was a mission that needed to transcend. I felt like I wanted to wear things that fit properly and fully represented the kingdom of God. Even when I’m shy to speak, people will see my love of God when they read my shirt. I thought it would be nice if young people f

She said her project was three years in the making and she was happy it was finally done. “I registered it almost three years ago but I was nervous about starting it.

“We’ve got T-shirts with text about God, cool jackets, track pieces and versatile items you can wear at events,” she said.

Although the store has opened, the official launch will be on Thursday, 30 June at 27 Boxes in Melville, where the store is located.

Speaking about the nomination, she said: “I’m excited but also scared. I’m still trying to figure out what to do with my hair.”
