SKEEM Saam's new timeslot wasn't as bad an idea as people thought it would be.
Many people on social media were worried when it was announced that the show would move from the 6.30pm timeslot to 7.30pm.
They said the show would lose viewership because it airs at the same time as Scandal! on e.tv.
However, the first episode on Monday, 4 March debuted with a 3,2 million viewership.
Although it’s a dip compared to the usual viewership which was at a whopping 4 508 846 on 8 January 2024, the channel celebrated the milestone.
The 7.30pm timeslot usually had a viewership of around 1 921 906, which was recorded on 11 January 2024.
“SABC1 is excited to share that the daily drama Skeem Saam, produced by Peu Communications, achieved a massive historical audience rating of over 3,2 million viewers last night, 4 March 2024 when the popular drama debuted in the new timeslot of 7.30pm,” the channel said.

We're proud of the performance of the first night and are looking forward to more highlights and wins with the Skeem Saam move. Thank you to the SABC1 audiences for walking the journey with us,” she said.
Skeem Saam was the second-highest-watched show on SABC before the changes, following Uzalo at 5 621 623. The third highest is Generations: The Legacy with 4,3 million viewers.
