PUPILS beamed with joy as they received their gifts from SABC1's Skeem Saam actress, Joyce "Majoy" Ledwaba.

Majoy, in partnership with the Hollywood Foundation, handed over school uniforms to pupils as part of celebrating her birthday.

She started by gifting Rachebole Primary School pupils in Ga-Matlala and ended her day at Kgatabela Primary School in Ga-Madiba Village outside Mokopane, Limpopo on Wednesday, 24 January.

Adding to their smiles, they also received vouchers from Pep store to buy school uniforms of their sizes.

This is intended for the pupils to no longer be ashamed of coming to school and to focus on their schoolwork, rather than being laughed at.

The initiative is part of the Hollywood Foundation's R8 million commitment to a campaign focused on providing relief to parents and empowering students at the beginning of the year.

Majoy told Daily Sun that she chose the primary schools as she cares a lot about young children.

"This is also my way of relieving the burden off the shoulders of the many unemployed parents who always stress during this time because they don't have money to buy proper school uniforms. The pupils need to focus on their futures only, nothing else," she said.

One of the recipients, Tshegofatso Mokoena (11), said he's relieved that he will now attend school without any fear.

"I will enjoy school and I'm very thankful. This is a great way to start the year," he said.

SGB member Brenda Ledwaba said they appreciate what Majoy did for the school.

"This is something we have been waiting for and God has answered our prayers," she said.

Hollywood Foundation public relations officer Vuyisile Ngobese said they actively contribute to making a positive difference in the lives of pupils, especially in areas of their operation.
