THE former Sizokuthola presenter Xolani Khumalo has made a U-turn at the Hillbrow Police Station on Thursday afternoon, 30 November.

This comes after he had intentions of handing himself over to the police following their planned march to the station.

The Xolani Khumalo Foundation's spokeswoman Noluthando Khumalo confirmed this to Daily Sun after word came out that Xolani had been arrested and detailed at the Hillbrow Police Station.

“Xolani Khumalo handed himself in at Hillbrow Police Station with his legal team. After consultation, the charges against Xolani were dropped,” Noluthando said.

Xolani's U-turn at the police station comes after more charges of robbery and damage to property were added to the existing charge of murder.

This was heard when Xolani appeared before the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on 21 November after he was allegedly linked to the murder of suspected drug dealer, Robert Varrie (49).

Varrie was declared dead after being interrogated during the filming of Sizokuthola in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni, on Wednesday, 19 July.

This would later see a cloud of darkness weigh over Xolani's shoulders as he was later fired by Moja Love.

Among the many reasons for the termination, Moja Love alluded that there were concerns about Xolani's "involvement in the contamination of crime scenes".

Faith Mabusela, national chairwoman of Put South African First, confirmed to Daily Sun that Xolani had marched to the Hillbrow cop shop to hand over a memorandum to the commission regarding the drug scourge in the city.

Xolani was flanked by supporters who were concerned about police, saying they didn't hold drug dealers accountable.

“Community members are tired of being victims of drug dealers,” Mabusela said.

In a recent sit-down interview with Daily Sun, Xolani said he wasn't shaken by the dismissal and that his work against drugs would continue.

"At the end of the day, it was never about numbers or TV. It was about ridding the streets of drugs. Life happened… It's over, I have been dumped, maybe we will talk, maybe we will not. I just need to find a way to get back on my feet and get on with the job, because it's about more than just me: drugs are a national problem," he said to the peoples paper at the time."

It was further revealed Xolani and Joburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) have since joined forces to continue the fight against drugs.
