Musician Zawadi YaMungu is hungry for Mzansi’s recognition.

MUSICIAN and actor Zawadi YaMungu earned huge recognition outside her country.

She is still hungry for Mzansi’s recognition and vows to work harder to get recognition in her country, South Africa.

Zawadi scooped an international award with her first-ever nomination, and he believes it is the start of many good things in her music career.

The 32-year-old musician from Mandeni, KZN, scooped Best Female Musician of the Year at the Ladies Media Awards (LIMA) held at Wesley Towers in Ghana from 28 to 30 March.

Zawadi, whose real name is Nkosingiphile Mpanza, told Daily Sun that winning the international award on a continental level means a lot to her.

“It means I’m being recognised not only in Mzansi but globally. I have not been nominated before or even grabbed an award here in my country, South Africa. It is my first time, that is why it is very special.

“To scoop an international award means what I’m doing is recognised and celebrated not only in South Africa but globally. They enjoy my music because they did research on my brand before they nominated me. I think they loved what they saw on social media, what I’m posting, the music I’m doing, and the instrument that I’m playing,” she said.

Zawadi believes that scooping the award is the start of great things and will open many doors for her.

“For my brand, for my craft, it is the start of more doors opening, more collaborations and more exposure, not to my South Africans but to Africa at large. I’m still here to work hard to be recognised in my own country,” she said.

Zawadi has been in the music industry for ten years, and she was praised when she performed the late Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi’s mother, Princess Magogo’s songs.

She started to sing professionally in 2016 when she joined the Afrikan Heritage Ensemble singing amahubo (Zulu traditional hymns).

The musician later branched out to be independent music, where she sings indigenous music, playing indigenous instruments like umakhweyana.

She added that she will release her single soon titled Ngimuhle, followed by her debut album, produced by well-known producer Mondli Ngcobo.
