EVEN though he doesn’t know who his mother is, he decided to name himself after her.
Singer Jabulani Majola, popularly known as Jabulile, said his mum disappeared when he was three days old, and he was adopted.
The 28-year-old from Greytown in KZN said he was adopted by a white family that raised him to be a Christian man.
Jabulile is known for his songs Ubhubesi and Stranger.
He told Daily Sun he had recently released a song with Yoav titled Nyoni Yami.
“Nyoni Yami is a modern-day parable. It narrates the story of a blue swallow, orphaned and rejected by the world around it. My dad used to tell me the story about it. The bird navigates life’s challenges and confronts forces attempting to crush its spirit and destroy its soul,” he said.
He said as the bird learns to adapt to surviving the turbulence of the world, it discovers the power of its song.

“Through its song, the swallow chooses to give its light, beauty and healing to the same world that has tried so hard to destroy it,” he said.
Jabulile said after finding out her mum’s name, he used it as his stage name.
“The reason I called myself Jabulile is that there was a sense of pride in knowing her name and calling myself that. That's the only thing that I know about her, and I believe that naming a child is important and significant, and there's a lot of love in it,” he said.
He said people see orphans as rejected and unloved but sometimes it is not the case.
“Sometimes, parents don’t know what to do because they don't have money,” he said.
