IZINKABI left the house of a top maskandi family riddled with bullet holes on Monday, 26 February.

Legendary producer Shobeni Khuzwayo (56), who's also the founder of legendary group Izingane Zoma and his son Mthokoziswa Khuzwayo were shot, wounded, and rushed to Nquthu hospital on Monday night.

This was after they were shot at by unknown men as they were sitting in a room as a family.

Family reeling in shock

Other family members who are also top maskandi musicians, legendary guitarist and Izingane Zoma co-founder Busani "Ntshebe" Khuzwayo and Shobeni’s son Dlubheke Khuzwayo and Falabo  "Magic Fingers" Khuzwayo, managed to escape unharmed.

Falabo, who also plays lead guitar for maskandi star Khuzani Mpungose, told Daily Sun they thank God that they survived.

“It was Monday at around 7pm, where we were all back at home and sitting in a rondavel room as a family.

“My father received a phone call and went outside the room. When he was talking on the phone, he realised there were hitmen and started to shoot at him. He rushed back in the room but unfortunately some of the bullets hit him and my brother,” he said.

Motive still unknown

Falabo said the hitmen nearly killed them all, and he was still confused about the motive of their shooting.

“We were all at home on Monday, and we were shot. We don't know what the hitmen are thinking after their mission to shoot us failed.

“We thank the Nquthu police for responding quickly and escorting the ambulance to help my father because without them, it was going to be difficult for the ambulance to do it,” he said.

Shobeni is a respected producer who is behind the success of many top maskandi musician, including maskandi star Khuzani Mpungose, Izingane Zoma and late Mgqumeni Khumalo.

He was one of the first black music producers to start his own recording label called Izingane Zoma Music.
