SOUTH Africans rallied behind Miss SA 2020 Shudufhadzo Musida at the Miss World pageant in the early hours of Thursday, 17 March.
She represented the country along 40 other beauty queens from all over the world in Puerto Rico.
The hashtag #ShuduForMissWorld was trending on Twitter with people sending her good luck messages.
Although Shudu didn’t make it to the top 13, they said they are proud of her.
Miss World 2022 is Karolina Bielawska from Poland, the first runner-up is Shree Saini from the United States and the second runner-up is Olivia Yace from Cote d’Ivoire.
However, the people of Mzansi also felt like the Miss World pageant robbed South Africa and Miss Botswana, Palesa Molefe.
Media personality Anele Mdoda said South Africa was robbed.

“Look I’m sad we were robbed like that but that stage looked amazing #ShuduforMissWorld,” she wrote.
Another Twitter user, Muhluri, accused the Miss World Organisation of racism.
“#shuduformissworld #MissWorld2021 I’m smart enough to realise that what I just witnessed was racism. The world can second the fact South Africa & Botswana were deserving of the top 13 spot. Y’all did my continent dirty,” he wrote.
“Nevertheless we’re immensely proud of you. Thank you for representing us so well, Shudufhadzo Musida #shuduformissworld,” wrote Shady Jantjies.
Mr Nice suggested that a pageant for African beauty queens should be started.
“Has anyone ever thought of us having Miss Africa? We really can’t let Palesa and Shudu go like that. I’m not okay. #shuduformissworld #MissWorld2021 #missworld They deserve to represent Africa on world stages,” he wrote.
After the pageant, Shudu sent out a message to South Africans and thanked them. She quoted a Bible verse and then wrote a letter for South Africans.
“From the bottom of my heart I want to thank you my beloved South Africa for your unwavering support and love I have received from you throughout this journey! I felt it within my soul as I stepped out on stage! I cannot wait to take you along as I enter this new chapter of my life! Forever yours, Miss South Africa 2020, Shudufhadzo Musida,” she wrote.
