VETERAN singer and drummer Sello Montwedi has died.
The last living member of Sankomota died on Friday, 19 August, at the age of 59.
Manager Mark Roth said Sello died at home in Klerksdorp, North West.
Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse told Daily Sun that he first discovered Sello.
“I met him in the early 1980s. He came in as a backing vocalist but I asked him to play drums as well, so he would sing and play at the same time,” he said. “He later established himself, and that was when he started Bayede and later joined Sankomota.”
Sipho described Sello as a disciplined workaholic and talented vocalist.

Sello’s wife, Gaontese, told the SunTeam he had not been well since 1996 when he was involved in a car accident, in which four of his band members were killed.
“He was in and out of hospital but last year, he was so sick he was admitted.
“He was fine after that but on Friday, he fell sick and complained about his left hand side,” she said.
“It looked like he was having a stroke because his face was also affected.
“He was rushed to hospital, but it was too late. By the time we got there, he had already passed on.”
Gaontese said though distraught, she was happy to have spent her life with Sello.
“He was a good, responsible husband.
“He loved his family and was protective. His last performance was last month.”
His funeral service will be on Saturday, 27 August, at the Klerksdorp Town Hall.
