THUTHUKANI Music Conservatoire is set to host a 20-piece orchestra in the kasi at the weekend.
The music school from Soweto has been operating for 30 years, specialising in teaching reading and playing different musical instruments.
It has produced musicians who are now in the country’s Military Band and the South African Navy.
On Sunday, 28 August, they will host the Thuthukani Music Concert at Mofolo Arts Centre hall in Soweto.
The 20-piece orchestra has a mix of adults and young people.
Lindiwe Makubalo, one of the founding members, teacher and project manager, told SunBuzz: “We are promising our supporters that we will not disappoint.
“We have carefully selected songs that will appeal to our audience.
There will be three soloists from the youth section.
“Nomsa Molobye will play the First Movement of Mozart Clarinet Concerto K622, Thoko Thothobolo will play Second Movement of the same Concerto K622 then one of the Orchestra’s legends, Bra Strike Mashobane, will play Andate in C for Flute and Orchestra piece where he will plead with South African Men to stop abusing women.
“We always perform songs that are addressing what the country is going through, be it happy or sad moments.
“Our young musicians contributed more on the songs that we will belt out at the concert.”
The music school uses the money raised from concerts to loan their students who can’t pay tuition fees or afford instruments.
The concert will start at 2pm. Entry is R50 at the venue.
