HAVING a breakthrough in the music industry can be a hard task for artists.
Some artists skyrocket to fame early in their careers while others spend years in the industry without recognition.
Hip-hop and neo-soul artist Nyota Parker knows that struggle too well.
Nyota from Cape Town said the music industry isn’t easy.
She said she has been in the industry for many years, but she's still regarded as a new artist.
Nyota is known for her distinctive blend of hip-hop neo-soul. Her music explores themes of resilience, self-discovery, and the profound connection between an artist and their craft.
The 23-year-old artist told Daily Sun that she has always been passionate about music.
“I was always into music from a super young age but realised I wanted to take it seriously at the age of 16. That’s when I started recording with a purpose,” she said.

She said her journey in the industry has had a lot of ups and downs.
She said her latest project, called MIDST, was created out of a creative block.
“I wasn’t finding it easy to write anything at that time because I was just forcing it. I had to take a breather and realise that the music always comes back to the creator. That gave me comfort and removed a lot of pressure from me,” she said.
She said music means soul and expression of the soul.
“Whatever way that is communicated, it’s valid. It’s emotion in its rawest yet most refined form,” she said.
Nyota said she's grateful for the support she has been receiving.
“My supporters have been happy for me overall. They've been letting me know that every lyric speaks to them because most of my supporters are creatives too. I love that,” she said.
