COMMUNITY radio presenter Bhekani "Dankie" Mthembu is riding the wave of his success on radio and he hopes that scooping awards will open doors for him at big radio stations.
The 31-year-old from Ezingolweni, KZN has been nominated as Best Radio Presenter at Live Your Dream Awards, which he won in 2022.
The awards ceremony will be held at Stable Theatre in Durban on 25 November 2023, and voting lines will be closed on 15 November 2023.
Bhekani, who presents weekend shows on Intokozo FM, told Daily Sun: “I believe that as people voted for me to win last year, they will vote for me to win this award for the second time.
“I hope that these awards will open doors for me at big radio stations because my aim is to work for commercial radio stations or SABC radio stations."

Bhekani started his radio career at an online radio station called Eantouch Radio in 2019 before moving to Siyathuthuka FM in the same year. He joined Intokozo FM in 2021.
Bhekani, who is also the co-founder of MBK Uju Production alongside Mthabiseni Masuku, said they do videos and pictures of events and promote up-and-coming artists.
“We capture different events while we are profiling up-and-coming artists and show their profile videos on our YouTube channel and our Facebook page,” he said.
Although he moved to Durban for greener pastures, he hasn't forgotten about his dusty village of Ezingolweni.
He plans to host an event called KwaShali Music Festival at AB Gigaba Hall to promote his village’s up-and-coming artists.
“During the day we will be ending Heritage Month in style while giving our up-and-coming artists a platform to showcase themselves to the community,” he said.
