THEY call her Serena Williams because of her fit body.

But radio DJ Nondumiso Mkhize wants to be recognised for what she does for society.

“I appreciate it when they call me Serena because that gives me confidence on the shape of my body. But I want to make my own mark that will be uniquely recognised. When people see me, I don’t want them to see Serena but I want them to see Nondumiso, a woman who makes a positive influence to other women,” she said.

Nondumiso is hosting the sport show called Sports Unlocked weekdays on Durban Youth Radio (DYR).

The 34-year-old from Umzinto, KZN South Coast has also landed a TV job where she will be hosting a fitness show.

“From 1 April, TV viewers will learn more about fitness through the sport show I will be hosting on DSTV channel 261. It’s an exciting adventure for me. And I believe the TV gig is the beginning of great things. My goal is to present sport on broader platforms such as national radio and TV. I also want to study towards sports law.” Nondumiso’s been involved in different sports projects as founder of fitness club The Cottage, where she helps women to achieve their body goals.

She believed as a radio DJ, she keeps learning new things.

“There’s a lot of discipline involved which can be applied even in other aspects of life,” said Nondumiso.
