THE Radio Awards nominees were announced on Tuesday, 6 September and radio personalities couldn’t be happier.

The purpose of the Radio Awards is to recognise outstanding achievements in the Mzansi radio industry.

This year, seven KZN based radio stations will represent the province. They’re Lotus FM, Izwi Lomzansi, East Coast Radio, Inanda FM, Igagasi FM, Ukhozi FM, as well as Radio Khwezi.

Radio Khwezi presenter and comedian Simthande “Makathangthini” Myeza has been nominated in four categories: Afternoon Drive Presenter, Content Producer (for Sakha Isizwe Documentary), Radio Documentary (for the “Male Rape” episode of Sakha Isizwe Documentary) and Bright Star Inductee, a category that honours rising stars in the radio industry.

Commenting on his nominations, he said: “I’d like to thank my programme’s manager, Saziso ‘Mr Funny’ Dlamini, for pushing me to reach my full potential and the entire Radio Khwezi management. I also want to thank my fellow radio presenters and the listeners for the support. The station got 12 nominations in total, including the Station of the Year category.”

Ukhozi FM has been nominated for its show Ulibo Lokuqala, Kanye Nawe, Sigiya Ngengoma, Prime time sport, Ezisematheni , Back to school and Hope is Power Business Rescue.

The main event will be held on 26 November in Parktown, Joburg.
