Mzansi’s biggest stars and the who’s who of the entertainment industry gathered for the biggest event on the entertainment calender this past weekend.

The South African Music Awards (Samas) were held at Sun City in Rustenburg, North West, on Saturday and Sunday, 27 and 28 August. The weekend was a celebration of music, the stars and the revolution of dance music in Mzansi.

Celebrities wore their best outfits and walked the red carpet.

Stars like LootLove, Maglera Doe Boy, 25K, Wouter Kellerman, Zakes Bantwini, Berita, Anele Zondo, Zweli Mbhele, Lady X, Jessica Mbangeni and Eugene Khoza showed off their outfits. DJ and producer DJ Cleo came in style and shocked people when he rode in on the red carpet on his motorbike.

While The River actress Linda Mtoba wore a dress with a breastplate, shocking Mzansi as well.

The event was hosted by Lawrence Maleka, Nandi Madida, Mpho Popps and Robot Boi. The red carpet was hosted by TikToker, Sipho Alphi Mkhwanazi.

The late Riky Rick was honoured with performances by Stogie T, A-Reece and Tshego. Other performers who took the stage were Makhadzi, Takie Ndou, Shekhinah, Musa Keys, Konke, Da Capo, Msaki and Lloyiso.

Umlando by Pumba, Mdoovar and Toss won the TikTok Most Viral Song.

Makhadzi’s Ghanama featuring Prince Benza won the Tecno Music Video of the Year award and Vula Mlomo by Musa Keys was voted Tecno Record of the Year.

Chymamusique took home three awards: Best Dance Album, Album of the Year and Artist of the year. Commenting about the awards, Recording Industry of South Africa CEO Nhlanhla Sibisi thanked everyone who made the Samas possible.

“Our 28th instalment has certainly set the highest standard for live awards shows. We are grateful to our hosts Nandi Madida and Lawrence Maleka, all the guest presenters and performers for making this a memorable night.

“We are proud of all the #Sama28 winners. We had an unforgettable experience in Sun City and look forward to Sama29 and the milestone Sama30,” he said.
