LOCAL artists will soon present their song dedicated to King Misuzulu KaZwelithini.
The song, Misuzulu Ngonyama Yesizwe, was composed by various artists, including Lady Du, Sbu Banda, Ezby, Eugene Mthethwa, Phuzekhemisi and Mbuzeni in May.
At the time, Lady Du said: “My contribution to this song will go down in history, even when I’m no longer here.
“I’m grateful for this opportunity because I respect culture, tradition and our African history.
“For me, this is not just entertainment but another way of telling and preserving our African stories.”
Dr Musa Xulu told Daily Sun the song was a way to welcome the new king to his throne.
“The song will officially be presented at an event commemorating the burning of the capital of the Zulu empire after the Battle of Ulundi on 4 July 1879,” he said.
“It marked the end of a sovereign Zulu state. King Cetshwayo was later captured by the British invaders and his generals were ambushed and killed at Ondini in 1884.
“King Cetshwayo was injured and he died in Eshowe. He was later buried at eNkandla.”
Xulu said the purpose of the event was to ensure that the house of Shaka lived forever.
He said there would be a number of cultural performances, including the singing of amahubo by Amabutho.
The event will also feature prayers, speeches and the reading of academic papers.
“Prince Mango-suthu Buthelezi will deliver a key note address on the 1879 Anglo Zulu War,” he said.
The event will be held on 4 July at the KZN Cultural Museum in Ulundi.
