AWARD gospel artist Jumbo Nyangiwe and Dumangeze Ngcobo are at war with each other.
They are fighting over ownership of the song, Wena Nkosi uyazi. But on Tuesday, 9 August their fight moved to another level as Dumangeze decided to perform the song live on 1KZN TV’s Ugubhu Lwami.
This angered Jumbo as he felt disrespected and undermined by Dumangeze.
“I don’t know this guy and it’s the first time I heard about him. I guess he’s one of my fans and at my level it’d be difficult to know or interact with all my fans. I’m a big artist and I’m at the top level, I cannot be entertaining all my fans,” said Jumbo.
He then blamed the channel for inviting and allowing Dumangeze to sing his song.
“I actually blame the channel and its presenters for allowing this person to perform my song. They are unprofessional and they failed to protect my music,” fumed Jumbo.

But Dumangeze hit back at Jumbo and said: “Jumbo is a liar, we know each other very well and we even spoke on the phone. The song in question is not originally his but it’s an old song, anyone can perform it. He might have rearranged and popularized it but it’s not his. I even have recordings where he was gossiping about me. I also spoke to him about this and our discussion did not end well.”
Daily Sun has listened to some of the recordings. In one of the recordings, Jumbo can be heard gossiping about Dumangeze.
“This boy doesn’t understand that performing someone else’s song is unlawful. This can land him in jail,” he said in one of the clips.
In another clip, Jumbo and Dumangeze can be heard having a verbal fight over this song.
Daily Sun asked Jumbo about the voice notes but he failed to answer.
Dumangeze said that he intentionally performed this song on TV “I could’ve performed any of my songs but I performed this one to prove a point, to show him that I’m not scared of him and if he continues like this I’ll give him a beating. He’s a gospel artist and I sing Maskandi so he must stick to his lane,”
Edwin Mncwango from 1KZN TV said: “As a TV station, our job is to promote and support local artists. Dumangeze is one of the local artists. It’s impossible to know his agreements with other artists. We will also investigate this and see how we resolve it.”
