NQOBILE “Drama Queen” Zungu’s pain has become a source of strength for vulnerable women.
The 35-year-old mother from Empangeni, northern KZN, runs a programme called Be That Strong Woman.
It was inspired by her failed marriage.
“As women, we go through a lot and we hardly find time to heal. So the purpose of this programme is to heal each other.
“It’s meant for us to empower each other and impart skills and knowledge so that we make money. The programme is about finding solutions to our problems,” Nqobile told SunBuzz.
Speaking about her failed marriage, she said: “I got married at the age of 22 but within three years, my marriage was over. It was an unhappy and abusive marriage. My then husband was unfaithful and he turned me into his punching bag. Eventually, I decided to quit my marriage.”

She later found a new boyfriend.
“I wanted to start over and so I dated someone else. Unfortunately the new boyfriend was equally abusive.
“I was broken and I realised I’d made many wrong choices in my life. With this realisation, I decided to pursue a public relations diploma at Unisa. This was in 2020.
“I actually started this programme in my mother’s back yard. I invited 10 women and we’d discuss issues that affected us.”
She said the government has been progressive in empowering women through legislation, but it’s still not enough.
“A lot still needs to be done to ensure that women get the right support,” she said.
