YET another actor has left Gomora.

Velile Makhoba, who played Gugu, appeared on the show for the last time last week.

An inside source said her character had come to an end and her role was no longer relevant.

“Her on-screen family, which includes her father played by Buyile Mdladla and Buhle played by AmaQamata are no longer there,” said the source.

“The writers loved her. They were prepared to keep her, but it was difficult to squeeze her in between other characters. Her character had become redundant as a result they had to let her go. But they were careful not to kill her. Her exit was strategic. She might make a comeback because according to her script, she will be relocating to KZN to her grandparents.”

Last year, Velile told Daily Sun she had a one-year contract with Gomora.

She confirmed her exit.

“I had a one-year contract with Gomora starting from December last year. Gugu’s role had to be terminated because it was no longer serving the purpose. Buhle was no longer there and Gugu’s entire family was also not there. Leaving Gomora was a bittersweet moment for me. It was my first TV break and I’ve had an opportunity to act alongside great talent. I don’t take this opportunity lightly and I’ll always be grateful for it. I’ve also learnt so much from the cast and I’ve no doubt that one day I’ll work with some of them,” she said.

Velile said she has already landed a few roles.

“I’ve been lucky enough to find another acting job. Unfortunately I’m not allowed to talk about it as yet, but I’m already shooting with the cast. I will make a formal announcement when the time is right,” she said.

Velile is a product of KwaMashu Arts Centre also known as KCap.

She is also a dancer and has toured various countries showcasing her work.
