SINGER Nomcebo Zikode and Nigerian media executive Timothy Kublenu Akeju have been appointed as goodwill ambassadors by the African Renaissance and Diaspora Network (ARDN).
They are part of a red card campaign using sports and culture to achieve gender equality and empowerment of women.
Nomcebo and Timothy were appointed at the 66th session of the United Nations Commission of the status of women, held in New York, USA.
Nomcebo took the news to Instagram, saying: “Exciting news in my career. African Renaissance and Diaspora Network appoints me and Akeju as (goodwill) ambassadors. I’m ready to do humanitarian work for the world.”
ARDN said: “The African Renaissance and Diaspora Network has appointed South African music star Nomcebo and media executive Akeju as goodwill ambassadors for this campaign to give a red card to all forms of discrimination and violence against women and girls.

“We are honoured to welcome Nomcebo and Akeju to further strengthen our efforts, especially since they both epitomise the African renaissance while also inspiring those of the diaspora.”
Fans and colleagues took turns to congratulate Nomcebo.
Singer Lindo Sithole said: “May God keep blessing you for a long time sisi wam’, congratulations.”
Mduduzi said: “Congratulations Nomcebo, it means a lot to be nominated in that initiative. Not long ago you were invited to CAF competition. It means in the African continent, uyathandwa sisi. Please sebenza ngamandla, kukhulu okuzayo.”
