NEWZROOM Afrika news anchor Cathy Mohlahlana is expecting a baby!

The news was confirmed by Newzroom Afrika in a statement on Thursday.

Announcing changes on the 24-hour-news channel, it was revealed that Mohlahlana is going on maternity leave in mid-December.

“Newzroom Afrika’s News@Prime anchor Cathy Mohlahlana will be on maternity leave in mid-December, with Thembekile Mrototo standing in as prime anchor for the next few months,” read the statement.

The award-winning journalist also works for SAfm, where she hosts The Talking Point from 9am to 12pm, Monday to Friday.

Before joining Newzroom Afrika, she worked for e.tv news channel eNCA.

Meanwhile, Newzroom Afrika announced changes to its channel (DStv channel 405).

One of the major changes includes the editor-in-chief position, which Njanji Chauke was appointed to.

He was described as a multi-skilled media professional with 25 years of experience in journalism.

His journalism experience includes the reporting from disaster zones such as the Democratic Republic of Congo and Baghdad in Iraq.

He also reported on the death of Nelson Mandela and the Marikana massacre.

The channel has also made changes to the committee.

While veteran journalist Dr Joe Thloloe remains the committee chairman, Katy Katopodis is leaving her position of news director at the end of the year to take up a new role on the editorial advisory committee.

The committee will be also joined by Dr Sizwe Mpofu-Walsh and Ngiphiwe Mapi Mhlangu.

Newzroom Afrika CEO Thabile Ngwato said the committee will assure balanced, fair and reliable reporting.

“This committee provides the assurance that Newzroom Afrika will always strive to uphold the highest standards of journalism, and reporting that is balanced, fair and reliable,” said Ngwato.
